In Gaylord you'll find the gently sloping terrain, heavily wooded forests and deep annual snowfall ideal for nordic skiing. It is also not uncommon to see numerous wildlife out on the trail. Our facilities range from rustic and scenic at the Pigeon River State Forest, to elegant and expertly groomed at two of Gaylord's finer facilities, Treetops Sylvan Resort and Marsh Ridge Resort.In addition to the information contained in these pages, please send for detailed trail maps, the complete range of accommodations, and a winter travel planner by writing or calling.

Over 20k of cross country trails include a 5.5K lighted loop. Sylvan also operates a complete ski equipment and clothing store. Lodging is available at the resort.

Marsh Ridge Golf & Nordic Ski Resort

517-732-6794 or 1-800-743-PLAYAt Marsh Ridge, resort guests may ski 40K of nordic trails, with 5K lighted for night skiing. Ski rental is available through the resort. An outdoor, heated swimming pool helps cap off the evening. Lodging is available. Marsh Ridge is on Old 27 South, about six miles south of Gaylord.

The Otsego Ski Club/Hidden Valley Resort
The Otsego Ski Club/Hidden Valley Resort is located on M-32, just east of the Gaylord city limits. The club offers Alpine and nordic skiing for members. Seventeen slopes are serviced by five chair lifts and two rope tows. Off-trail cross country skiing is available in addition to 10 kilometers of groomed trails. Lodging is available for members. 616-585-7141Wilderness Valley has 56K of groomed trails that await both the novice and the experienced cross-country skier, including a 1.5 kilometer loop, lighted for night skiing. Rental equipment is available. Wilderness is 10 miles southwest of Gaylord on Mancelona Road.

517-939-8914South of Gaylord, Michaywe' features 20 kilometers of cross country trails that wind around scenic Lake Michaywe', with a lighted loop for night skiing. A clubhouse is open for snacks and weekend meals. Michaywe' is located off Charles Brink Road, eight miles south of Gaylord.
A Winter Sports Arena Complex at Lakes of the North on Mancelona Road can be just the ticket to wintertime fun with 20K of nordic ski trails. Tobogganing and ice skating are also offered. Ice skate rental is available and all skating sites are lighted for evening fun. An indoor snack and food bar can help take the winter chill out of the bones. Lakes of the North can be reached at 616-585-6020.
Some 365 acres of groomed and off-trail nordic skiing await the visitor to the Lakeview Hills Country Inn, which features 20K of nordic trails. The inn, located on Fleming Road near Lewiston, also hosts the Lakeview Hills Classic, which will be held in the last week of January, a portion of the Michigan Cup cross country race.

Montmorency CountyTrail is at an intermediate level due to 2 hills. The rest is at a novice level. Cover is gently rolling oak, aspen, and pine cover. Nice pathway. Not groomed but used often.

DNR Mackinaw State ForestNovice trail designation on International Scale. Nearly flat on all but the Whoopay Loop, which has some small hills. Pine Baron has nice scenery, with woods to decrease the wind chill. Groomed once per week, two sets of tracks.

DNR Mackinaw State ForestIntermediate trail due to 2 downhills with bends. Most of the trail is at the novice level. Trail is not groomed, but is used almost daily. Meanders along the Pigeon River and through varying cover. Very scenic.

DNR Mackinaw State ForestFirst two loops are novice. The farthest off-road is difficult, with a steep climb and a long down hill run with curves. The trail is 9 miles NE of Boyne Falls. Not groomed. Springbrook Creek is a spring fed stream that is crossed 3 times. Terrain is from flat cedar to high hills.

DNR Mackinaw State ForestNovice trail. Is about 15 miles west of Gaylord. Trail is not groomed, but is used often and will normally have tracks. Meanders along a swamp edge with frequent deer sightings.
